Parents Take Heed
What I'd like to do with the unsupervised, loud, obnoxious kids I encountered in the theatre today.
I had the same experience at the movies. I took my 6 and 5 year old. My 5 year old has autism.
This lady comes in with 2 kids.. her brats were running all over the theatre, jumping from seat to seat. She would call their name and they wouldn't come, then she waited forever to come get them.
My boys..;-) Of course were sitting still not moving, and eating popcorn. I think Isaac may have said something loud 2 times, but I told him to be quiet, and he did. (He has been trained well before he hit the age of 5.. That is why).
Actually, to brag more... My 5 year old was used in a video to train new therapists because his behavior is so good. HA!!
I am sorry, but we spanked.. I rarely have to spank my 6 year old these days. We take away privileges too.. and stick with it.
Not bragging, but sick of hearing that spanking is wrong. The psycho babble way of thinking about parenting is ruining our kids..
Mahndisa: these kids were maybe 10, 11 or so. And NS: no parents in sight but, yes, the parents should really be placed on the hood first.
Rebecca: good for you, and your kids made your point right in front of you and other audience members!
Fish: boundaries, behavior, discipline -- all excellent points and ideas that should have been expressed and enforced by the parents years and years prior to those kids entering the theatre! Precisely!
I used to have an old cane-like thing that I got at a carnival. It was thin and whippy and had a silver ball on top. My kids (six) were punished more by the command to "go get the cane" than they ever were by its use. (my mother used to have me "go cut a switch of the lilac tree" I repented more with that knife in my hand, walking to the lilac bush than any other time. I really can't recall a switching (though I know that they happened) but I remember those walks to the lilac tree with real vividness. (even at seventy plus.)
