Thank you for linking this post to your blogs and, thank you Revka, for your comment about the importance of the post and its ability or our abilities to change hearts and minds.

I had no idea things would go this way when I began blogging. First it was simply kinda fun. Then it kinda got bigger and bigger and I realized, likely as does AJ, that along with being an escape valve when necessary, it can also help me to undertand what I'm thinking -- and has helped to solidify and, more importantly, CLARIFY my beliefs and views.

I started out "big" on the GOP when I began to blog; now I'm more cognizant of my conservative bent and my allegiance to the overall values of "conservatism" than to a party itself -- and, to a degree, how libertarianism sneaks into my wrinkled brain.

AJ makes an excellent point about blame and about solutions. And at this point, that is the greatest difference between Conservatives and Liberals, GOP and Dems.

The liberals and Dems are so quick to point, peck and burn. But where are THEIR solutions? THEIR in-depth plans? It is always, ALWAYS so much easier to follow than to lead.

The Japanese have a saying we should embrace: "Fix the problem, not the blame."

This Republic is not perfect nor will it ever be. But in terms of a Great Experiment it is a functioning wonder; we cannot ever give up on the values that created this nation -- why else is she so loved and hated? Why else would people risk their lives to come here?

Why else would people try to bring down her achievements? People hate what they fear and, vapid and empty, at night, alone with their own sordid thoughts, it is always easier to tear down than to build, to destroy rather than create, to let the fears overtake common sense.

We face enemies on many fronts today. Our nation is assailed from within and from without. We must all, individually, do our best to ensure her continued survival.

We must continue to embrace the values we know are right: honesty, loyalty, bravery, strength, judgment, courage.

We must pledge our allegiance, every day, to this Great Experiment -- because it is STILL the FINEST nation on the planet.

BZBloviating Zeppelinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01359816456769157176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7370534.post-1143397538370121282006-03-26T10:25:00.000-08:002006-03-26T10:25:00.000-08:00I thank you, Mr. Z! And to everyone, my thanks, t...I thank you, Mr. Z! And to everyone, my thanks, too! In the world I live in between waking and dreaming, light and dark, there are very few things left to me.

One person, alone, cannot do much. I can only put out what I see and what is happening and before I point a finger in accusation I *must* come up with a solution. Something *better* than what is here...

When you point out and blame, three fingers point back and blame you for not doing anything. And one points to your final resting place to remind you that if all you leave is blame behind, then you have left nothing behind.

I am tired of *blaming*.

There is enough of that to go around and we are rotting away ethically, morally and socially because we have gotten into the *one-upmanship blame game*.

In damning, the one doing so is thrice damned if they cannot offer *better*.

Not excuses.

Not saying 'well your side is just as bad...'

I would hope George Washington would have slapped anyone silly who tried that. Wars to fight, a country to build and a people to make free. Even though my roots do not go directly back that far in this country, that LEGACY is handed to us as a GIFT.

It is an HONOR to be given that GIFT so freely.

But it isn't free. A Republic is hard work, over and over and over, it is never finished. To give honor to those that have handed that gift to us *we* must keep it safe and make it *better* for those to come. So they can take up the work of the Republic.

I see New Orleans and its deep problems and I see something that *could* be and would be *better*. Far better. I am no zealot. I do not push my ideas, nor beat you over the head with them... but when attacked I simply ask: 'Do you have something better to put in its place?'

Silence.

Attack too long and you forget what you defend. Defend too long and all you want to do is attack, but forget why that is worth doing.

So I step side-ways and slant-wise and twist and turn in ways I don't understand and see that both are fighting on quicksand. That is taking both under.

Blame if needs be. But then be prepared to open your hand, so that you can lend a hand to build the Republic. Our Forefathers in this nation spewed much worse and with much vituperation, but, somehow, still managed to agree to be disagreeable and build something better than both.

Are we so lost, so lowly, so undeserving that we cannot do the same?

For that is where it starts, with each of us. And the most damning thing when one points a finger is when the one being pointed at opens up their hand and asks for help. Because those three point back sharply and into the heart, and cold as death they are then.A Jacksonianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07607888697879327120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7370534.post-1143396600132753972006-03-26T10:10:00.000-08:002006-03-26T10:10:00.000-08:00I hope it is okay, but I am going now and putting ...I hope it is okay, but I am going now and putting a link on my post in reference to this subject...and tell ones to forget about my post and read yours. This is great..(followed TexasFred's link here..)

I'm from southern NC and before we moved in the mid 90's (for many reasons including this) we saw the 'invasion' happening there due to the tobacco farms and the Mexicans (yep, illegals) were moving in in mass numbers to work in the tobacco fields. (Now they work almost all of the tobacco, dairy and pig farms as well as the peanut, soybean and cotton farms there.)

That is a double edged sword though, I saw many high school kids when I was in school (including both of my brothers) that worked tobacco every year and by the time I was in high school the kids my age were so spoiled by their parents that they wouldn't work in the fields, and the farmers instead of paying more hired illegals.

I am gonna admit I have seen this coming for many, many years and hated it all this time.. I'm more of a supporter of President Bush than many, but this is one subject I believe he has his head completely buried in the sand about. I hope we do end up with someone in the WH that will have the kahones to actually do something to protect this country. IMO we end up with more illegals that are criminals than we do actual 'good illegal immigrants', if they were so good, they'd be here legally now wouldn't they?

I hope you don't mind if I post a bit and link you here from my blog. (Conservative Cogitation)LittleOleLadyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01575448841356829425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7370534.post-1143376175020043362006-03-26T04:29:00.000-08:002006-03-26T04:29:00.000-08:00Blo,This is the best post i have read since I star...Blo,
This is the best post i have read since I started blogging.

Jacksonian comments on my blog as well and is consistent in his views. I am learning a lot about him personally as well.. As far as his disability goes. He has a remarkable think-tank between his ears, and I do wish his 'thinking' would be put in a book to be distributed to ALL in the U.S.! I would buy it.

We have forgotten what we are about. I agree with everything he wrote and his solutions. I am so disheartened with the republican party it is pathetic. The dems, as he said, let go of the jacksonians in the 70's..

I ALSO AGREE THAT COMPASSION IS A FARCE IN THE 2 PARTIES.. Why in the He** did the republicans drop their standards since Reagan to appear more 'compassionate'? Because of what Jacksonian said. I don't need to restate it all, but I was smiling through the whole post! Excellent Blo!

By the way, you and Jacksonian are the two so far, who have caused me to think about where I stand in some areas politically, and how I can be guilty of being blind to what is really going on in our country with the two party system.

If you got into blogging to change minds and hearts possibly, it is working.
Keep up the good work, both you and AJ..Rivkahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17074803139812941783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7370534.post-1143368971274765002006-03-26T02:29:00.000-08:002006-03-26T02:29:00.000-08:00I used to think that Mexico needed help. Once it ...I used to think that Mexico needed help. Once it was on its feet, people wouldn't want to leave. The problem with that logic is that it only applies to some people.

Even if Mexico moves out of third world status, it will be easier to mooch here. The solution does not lie in securing the border alone. This country can and must cut off the dole.

That being said, the borders are in terrible shape. We impede the lawful and ignore the intrusion of the lawless. It just don’t make no sense.

Conservatives came into power by proving to the people the majority was wrong. So why can’t we prove to folks that we need to make a change? We talk but we aren’t being understood. We explain but, we are not persuasive. It is way past time for somebody to stand up and make some sense.bigwhitehathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05378526701377764387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7370534.post-1143353571542663062006-03-25T22:12:00.000-08:002006-03-25T22:12:00.000-08:00TF: thanks for the linkage and the references! The ...TF: thanks for the linkage and the references!

The question now: will GW have the wherewithal to weather the storm, despite all the various "protests," and do THE RIGHT THING with regard to the immigration issue.

Unfortunately, I remain unconvinced.
