The House was given to set its own size by law, and that has ill served the US since 1911. Consider that the idea of representative democracy is to *know* your local representative. You cannot claim that at 1 per 550,000. A huge House is not impossible to run - there are many corporations with far more people making decisions and working together day by day. That is a lie. It is an excuse to deprive you of representation.

If you want politicians to know about daily lives, they must be drawn from a diverse sample of the people, not limited as it currently is. The answer to problems in representative democracy is *more* representation, not *less*. The latter leads to elitism, authoritarianism and finally distancing our say in government from government. Term limits will not do this as crony-based systems will create cliques to fill seats perpetually. Term limits is an answer in search of a question and a simplistic answer, at that. The simple, direct answer is more representation. That brings in more background, more experience and a deeper connection to the people. Everyone wanting less representation is saying they don't want representative democracy.

I think there is more than enough money in politics, if we had a House of 10,000 members or so. Whatever the 'awful amount' in politics, when divided amongst so many that amount becomes something the average citizen can understand. Being a Representative is no longer a sinecure, but a *job*. I would prefer a maximum House and the most amount of democracy America can handle which is *way* more than we have now.

If our Founders were here today, they would incite a revolution against our corrupt system that is unrepresentative, distant and destroying our society and culture.

Conservatives refuse to counter-attack, which is surrender at every liberal advance to secure more power in fewer hands. Thanks, but no, I am no conservative. And may I suggest that conservatives finally ask themselves why standing athwart history yelling 'stop' while a steamroller goes over them is in any way noble or smart?

If you agree with our founders, then support a vigorous democracy and push in all you say and do to get more of it. Any who dare oppose can be called out and told they are backing more powers into fewer and more corrupt hands as that is the direction it has gone in since 1911. That is failing America. Trust not in government. It is the repository of our negative liberties to protect us, and can only do ill by trying to do 'good'. Representative democracy is inefficient, slow, sluggish and prone to long arguments... it is not efficient. Government by such a system must be given little to do because of those two things *alone*. That means you cannot be pragmatic or 'realistic', but idealistic about democracy and decry those who would barter it away to be 'efficient'.

But that is what I have always stood for and continue to stand for. They dare not start that fight... but ask for collusion by those who want expediency over doing the right thing. To hell with that. Counter-attack for we are at the point where government's ills are becomming unsufferable... and there is only one solution to that. Fight to roll back now, when it can be done cleanly... or regret it when it cannot be done so well.A Jacksonianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07607888697879327120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7370534.post-29888438956618950272008-11-24T10:18:00.000-08:002008-11-24T10:18:00.000-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08235728458557983961noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7370534.post-19698463350513961222008-11-24T05:32:00.000-08:002008-11-24T05:32:00.000-08:00The people put undeserved faith in politicians, as...The people put undeserved faith in politicians, assuming they will act in the best interests of those who put them in office.
