Bloviating Zeppelin: What Will Be The Impact?

Bloviating Zeppelin

(in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

What Will Be The Impact?

First: Is it just me? Am I the only one frustrated by Blogger seemingly day in and day out -- at least 5 times in the past two weeks? The first post I lost was monstrous in size and damned near caused me to hurl the Confuser out the second story window. Today I was ready to post at 4 AM and again lost the post. Has this occurred to anyone else? This is my third try at the same post today and . . . very frustrating!

Yesterday was the so-called "Day Without Immigrants" or, as some Mexicans are saying, the "Day Without Gringos" as documented by the AP:

Thousands of Mexicans took to the streets Monday to support migrants in the United States and celebrated what they called a "Day Without Gringos" by shunning U.S.-owned supermarkets, fast-food restaurants and American goods.

How has it impacted you? Here is how it impacted me yesterday in Sacratomato, Fornicalia:

-- I worked out early in the morning at 3:30 at a large fitness chain; the standard three Mexican males were wearing the cleaning uniforms and doing their jobs as per normal;
-- I was the recipient of a large work product shipment at 9:00 am, the load delivered by a Mexican driver handling a Freightliner. He helped me unload 4,200 pounds of product. Then he drove to San Francisco;
-- I motored along a major adjacent highway where a large housing subdivision was being built; I specifically slowed down so I could see who was working on the various sites. There were a number of clearly Mexican workers wielding various construction tools;
-- I had a hankering for a hot doggie from a major national doggie chain; I was served by a Mexican female cashier.

That's how it affected me. How did it affect you?

Post-script:

I believe I have determined that, for whatever reason, Blogger has decided that it will no longer publish from work. I customarily blog from my work computer very early in the morning and that venue seems to have been removed -- covertly by my I.T. people or by various Acts of God, I am uncertain. In any event, this is clearly going to impact how frequently I blog during the week -- combined with the inconsistent familial events I have experienced and will be experiencing in the future. I am going to try to solve this problem -- I may have to bring my own huge laptop from home and connect via dial-up modem.

Now Blogger won't let me add an image. Again I ask: am I the only one Blogger seems to despise?

Hey Blo:
Blogger screws up sometimes. I don't know all the ins and outs, but your frustration is warrented. I was affected, as I was in SF yesterday. Traffic to and from the city was great and leaving during rush hour got me home almost an hour earlier than normal. I will say this: I didn't miss the usual traffic! And as far as the protestors were concerned, the mere concept is offensive.

Once I start hosting my photos somewhere else, I am done with blogger.

Bluehost is worth every penny. Wordpress is some mighty good software too.

I do not regret the move.

Mahndisa: if you went to The City then, yes, I'm sure you caught the traffic portion indeed! Except I didn't expect it to be LIGHTER -- I thought it would be negatively impacted! That's kind cool for you, then!

BWH: I'd consider it, except I'm such a geek that I can't even decide where to post code and how to make it work. You and Fred sent me some cool code, I'm sure, except I have no damned clue where or how to place it. I'm afraid of screwing something up that I don't have the brain horsepower to correct and my blog will be affected forever! Maybe I'm too anal about that. I gotta find some kinda Blogger or HTML guru to Lord over my site and help me along for some properly placed buckage.

I haven't had any problems recently but have had a lot of other people complaining about it. So I don't think you are alone. I have started saving things before posting them so if somehow I lose it I can get it back. I have never lost an entire post before but I can tell you I'd be mighty ticked off if that happened.

Mr. Z - Do not despair... I too, have felt the Blogger Bite and have taken to doing a quick copy and paste of the html to notepad or other plain text word processor. I have had two largish posts eaten by the nasty post-bug, and now take time to do the necessary work of backing over to text *first*. At some point I may switch to going directly from the word processor, but as I use OpenOffice and it doesn't play html nice with Blogger, I am out of luck.

Much commisseration with you!

BZ, as you can see, it's not just you. I had problems posting pictures over the last two days. I've never lost an entire post though.

The demonstration didn't affect me at all either. I don't think it went as well for them as they thought it would. Breaks my heart... not! :)

This is the first time that my work computer has allowed me to even view my comments in three days. So while I'm here, I'm going to bring my El Mondo Huge-o Laptop from home, hook it up into the Mark 1, Model 1 1949 era Dialup Modem Thingie (DMT -- that's the technical term), and see if I can Morning Blog like I used to.

My apologies again for the blog being so vacuous and, well, EMPTY.

First, try writing your post on Notepad or Word first, instead of directly into the blog and save it to the desktop. It doesn't take any longer. Then copy and paste. That way, if you lose it, you'll still have it.

Second, maybe there is a small step you are omitting in writing and publishing your post; like algebra, if you miss one step, it doesn't work.

Third, Blogger sometimes just doesn't get it. In one of my blogs, no matter what I do in html, I always get Bold and Italics only. I don't know why but it has to be in the template. (I think) Or in Preferences. When I first set it up in preferences, I set B and I into each post. Now, even if I delete them at the beginning of the post, I get them anyhow. Maybe Blogger is just lazy!

Several people have mentioned how light the freeway traffic was because of the "Great Gringo Boycott".

Think about that for a second. Think about how much gas we could save if all the protesters stayed home everyday. Even better if they would go back to their home of origin.

As to you blogger problem at work, maybe you banned your work computer from your blog. :-)

Fred is right. Either of us will help you. I can fix your TTLB code put up the badge I sent you and put up any stuff Fred sent. Just give me a pass word and tell me to do it.

Also, I will put in sufficient comments to explain what stuff is.

ca: Wow, first time I've seen you sir, and welcome aboard -- !!

I was thinking about that precise thing, thinking that it might take but a few seconds to paste into the blogger post page and then hope upon hope that, after pasting, the thing would take the post. Excellent suggestion and thank you!

BWH: you know, sir, I just very well might do just that. And, also, didn't you say you had the name of a guy who can work HTML like magic? Would he be willing to "take me on" as a paid "client," so to speak? There are TONS of things I'd like to do to the blog, if but I only knew how!
