Bloviating Zeppelin

(in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

"Shooter" -- To Be Avoided

The new movie "Shooter" starring Mark Wahlberg ("Italian Job," etc.) is out. I saw it Friday afternoon and can sum it up in this way: stay away. It is boring and tedious. Here is why:

I am so, so, so over Hollywood extolling the standard and prevailing "political" thriller where the bad guys are American and the ultimate string-pullers are white, fat, gray-haired, Republican power-mongers (shame on you, Ned Beatty!) who are motivated by oil, money, oil, money and oh, did I mention oil?

Wahlberg is too young to be believeable. He can't grow a decent beard. He just doesn't "play" in this part. And more Right Wing NutJobs Wanting To Take This Country Down For Oil And Cash -- I am so over that.

You want to support excrement like this, go ahead.

Instead, I might recommend you read the original book by author Stephen Hunter, entitled "Point Of Impact." No comparison.

Thanks. Your review was good enough for me.

I found "300" so refreshing, simply because it was so unapologetically pro-war/military culture and non-PC.

Well fair enough BZ. To be honest, I haven't seen any movie advert that has motivated me to wanna see it for a while. Oh, my husband wants to see that new Quentin Tarantino movie because the woman can shoot with her leg! hehehehehe

24 is beginning to get somewhat repetative with the oil, middle easterners, bad white guys, blah blah blah blah blah; I am over that theme too (although last week's episode was pretty good). I wanna see some unique political thriller.

Perhaps I will see 300!

Wordsmith: I too very much enjoyed 300 from the Frank Miller graphic novel (which I purchased "back then"). I knew, having previously read Steven Pressfield's fabulous historical novel "Gates Of Fire," and other books on the topic that 300 was historically inaccurate in some ways, I still VERY much enjoyed, like you, its most refreshingly-unabashed pro-stance on warriors and the culture of honor and courage.

Mahndisa: I would HEARTILY recommend you and your husband see 300 -- in Imax if you can find it -- he'll enjoy the action and you'll enjoy the thematic stance it takes. Beware: rather violent but, in my opinion, not violent for the sake of violence. Also, info, the new Tarantino film risks an NC-17 rating due to it's violent aspects.

Hollyweird has not gotten a sigle dime from me for over 5 years via movie theatres. I admit to purchasing dvds on occasion and I watch occasional TV with Hollywierdians on it, but not at the theatre. Nope. No way.

Movie?... what's a movie? ... don't go to them... don't have time. If I did, it would just be to see 300

I typically try to avoid any movies starring someone that used to be called "Marky Mark". If the "Funky Bunch" were in a movie, I'd avoid it too.

If Hollyweird can teach us anything, it is about the political views of the socialists in our midst. The very fact that so many film makers continue to view America as the bully or the bad guy is extremely telling to me.

ABF: I highly recommend 300.

Nightcrawler: I had hopes the movie may have been similar to the novel. No such luck.
