Bloviating Zeppelin: When You Outsource

Bloviating Zeppelin

(in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

When You Outsource

You make this country more dependent on the economies and political instabilities and cultures of those not your own -- to our clear detriment.

You make this amazing and wonderful country less independent, and more dependent upon the whims of second, third and fourth world countries.

And there is a reason we are considered a FIRST WORLD culture.

Because we are, quite frankly, superior to our lessers. They are called "third world countries" for a reason.

It is because they are our inferiors, plain and simple.

Due to their cultures, their environment, their geography, their mindset, their overarching religions, their ignorance, their stupidity -- I couldn't care less.

Many nations are inferior simply because they are, because of any or all of the above factors.

We place a priority on kindness, consideration, fairness, transparency, ethics.

Other developing nations couldn't care less about our rules, our attorneys, our tort system, our liabilities, our immunities, our entire sense of stability, our good will, our fair intentions. Or the health and well being of our citizens.

They do what they do when they do it, because we have purchased it, we have written it, we have paid for it, we have been forced to do it.

Because we have been convinced that "outsourcing" is the future.

But is it really?

How do we compete with countries whose line workers will be satisified with 95-cents per hour?

I am, clearly, at a loss.

My first thought: protect my country.

But how can we compete with a line production worker whose government (the U.S.) mandates health care, overtime, fair treatment, fairness in discipline, vs external governments that are completely open in terms of wages and benefits?

I ask you: what is the answer?

This really doesn't explicate, agree or diagree with your post, but you accurately identify us as a first world country, and you identify the third world countries. Have you ever (as I have ) wondered who in the heck are the second world countries?

My understanding is that those were typically ex-Soviet nations, Warsaw Pact nations, those within the former USSR influence, to also include North Vietnam, Cuba, etc. But after the fall of the Soviet Union that appellation became somewhat moot, at least in my opinion. "First" and "third worlds" are mostly ONLY what you read or hear today.

I've wondered about second world countries too, but to get back to the subject of your post, BZ, I don't have an answer. It's going to take someone much more educated in foreign affairs than I am to answer it. I'm as much at a loss as you are.

All I can tell you for sure is that this is a very interesting post. I hope everyone goes to the links!

There are two sides to every story and then there’s the middle.

As for one that deals with foreign manufacturing on a daily bases, I can tell you this.

Over the past year and a-half I have done everything with-in my power to have our products moved from foreign manufacturing back to the USA, it’s impossible and not for the reasons you may think.

I’ve been successful in moving one product line back here, a line of children’s furniture and that was it. Out of over 2500 lines only one, to my satisfaction, has been moved back here in the states.

The quality of the American Manufacturer is complete shit; they just don’t give rats -ass. Lazy, not trust-worthy, can’t meet dead-lines, won’t follow instructions, can’t get the colors right, just a complete nightmare.

You take a sample overseas and they match it exactly, every time. No hassles, meet every dead-line, a pure joy to work with.

I have done everything to give our manufacturing to US Companies, they just don’t care.

We are constantly looking for US Companies to take over our foreign manufacturing, maybe if they returned phone calls we could bring it all back home.

No wonder our own Military is looking overseas to have their new planes made.

Ranando: amazing observation but that begs one hugely important question: WHY is it? What, then, has happened to the American worker? Why can't you find anyone to excel?

BZ,

I wish I knew the answer to your question, I don’t.

Someday maybe you can see the samples we receive from US Manufacturers; you wouldn’t believe it, pure trash.

We do however keep looking, I would like to have it all done right here in the USA.

Then there's the clueless, you know the ones, Bush Bots, fall to their knees in a second if 'The Bush' demanded, the ones that label others as fake this and that, the ones that claim to know more about YOUR business than YOU do, yeah, them, the clueless that suck ass on every party hack that rolls into town...

The 'clueless' are the reason we are on the verge of going '3rd world', that's what blind obedience to 'The Bush' gets us...

An America that's bankrupt, morally and economically...

I hate the clueless know it alls...

The Democrats are controlled by men like George Soros who believes that America must become a 3rd world nation in order for the UN to take over and bring peace. I wish more people outside the blogosphere knew that.

I agree with Ranando, but only to a point. The standard of living we demand requires a higher wage standard, which in turn propagates higher demands, primarily on wages, and a lack of discipline in the work place and society as a whole. Employers aren't allowed to demand from their employees a higher work standard, and don't have the margins, anymore, to bring in three to do the job of one. It's a complete circle jerk in manufacturing to see who's gonna pop first. Fortunately, the foreign market is so corrupt, and knock of things so quick, that manufacturers are getting hesitant at sending ideas and products over.

One word UNION

The unions have made it so that a worker who excels is basically punished for doing so. If a worker tries to make more than the union allotted number of units they are told to sit until the end of shift, cant go home early, cant build more units. If a union member isnt doing their job they add another worker who does that work and KEEP the worker who isnt. Now it costs twice to get the job done.

The Second World Nations, if memory serves, were typically the USSR/China and similar Nations with the slow slide of Western Europe mimicing those views (sliding from first to second world). The 'Non-Aligned Movement' attempted to put something into Third World affairs, but that was just another Soviet prop to bash the West with. When looking at the USSR I described it, way back in the 1980's, as 'a third world economy with a second world government leading to a first rate disaster'. That enamored me of very few in college, because it was painfully accurate.

My problem with those pressing 'free trade' to support liberty and freedom is that they will not admit to the heritage of that idea in US politics, beyond trying to tie it to Burke and such. Those wishing to make, somehow, internal trade the equivalent of international trade have no business doing so under Burkean justifications when there is a ready US President that espoused it. Of course if you do *that*, it points up the folly of the idea because it patently did not work, which is something no one on the Right wants to own up to in any way, shape or form. The President who started this idea that US trade will create freedom?

Woodrow Wilson.

That, to me, says it all: a man who would use any expedient to stay out of war and then use every expedient in war to gain power for the federal government. He would *not* declare war on an enemy and, instead, blithely let the world know that trade would change the Ottoman Empire. Worked real well, didn't it?

After 30-some odd years of lots of trade with China, many point to the great bounty of the US economy and few, if any, point out that it is made on the backs of the extremely exploited poor in China that may have more material goods but are no closer to being free, today, than under Mao in the 1970's. Still have political prisoners, dissidents, and lovely jails to hold them, and no one on the Right or Left wants to shut off trade after the repression of the students in that Nation.

Little known, President Carter and Reagan used 'trade' as the great solidifier of Yugoslavia, to keep it unified and prosperous. Worked out well, no?

The Right is so self-absorbed by free trade dogma, that they ignore the salient fact of the founding of the Nation and the banner it was under. They purport 'free trade' everywhere, but ignore that actually putting a burden on trade is a way that the Nation can repay its debts, collect fees to run the place and, yes, carry out foreign policy. That banner, for those who have forgotten, is: 'No taxation without Representation'.

The King put on a tax on the tea trade as the straw that broke the Revolution open, as it was a direct repudiation of our rights as citizens to be heard in matters of trade to repay our debts for the French & Indian wars. That is one manner that democracies repay debts: via trade and burdening it. That is not 'protectionism', that is finding a way to ensure that those with the money to spend on trade outside the Nation realize their debt to the Nation and pay for the utility of that trade. I am not against free trade, but it had better damned well be with Nations that have supported us or are newly free from tyrannical rule. That is how you support friends, allies and liberty: by giving it encouragement and cement. Doing that with tyrannical Nations is 'bribing their people with goodies to be docile to their rulers'.

Oil will hit a hard and fast problem with the decaying Iranian infrastructure and similar problems hitting Venezuela under their irrational leader. What happens when 15-20% of the global oil market suddenly goes away due to infrastructure collapse and/or social upheaval? You will get a sudden scarcity of that product that even KSA and Russia cannot make up no matter how hard they try and prices go through the roof. China's debt problem (their internal debt) suddenly blossoms and industries implode due to lack of oil and funds, so that no matter how cheap the goods China will be unable to make them. India hits a major roadblock and dreams of a suburbanized middle class will be pushed back for at least a decade.

And the Saudis, funders and backers of al Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood and HAMAs, will supercharge those groups with funding that will rival that of France or Germany for groups 20% the size of their militaries.

The environmentalists and 'feel good liberals' will try to blame it on the Right, but it has been the Left that has stopped oil exploration and refining in the US, and shifts to oil sands and shales. All their lovely video will be prominently displayed from the last 30 years to remind everyone of the idiots who got us into this mess in the first place.

And of the three candidates left for President, which one can even comprehend this?

Zero.

Expect to hear cries for 'government to solve the crisis' when handing government power has been the *cause of it*.

You want to stem this?

Figure out a way to keep Iran from collapsing, Venezuela from going into revolt during a regional war, and get some oil exploration started *now* so that we can have some reliable supplies in 5-7 years.

Oh, and figure out a way to deal with terrorists able to bribe poor Nations for training areas.
