Bloviating Zeppelin: Ed McMahon Dies At Age 86

(in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Ed McMahon Dies At Age 86

And it wasn't pleasant.

You might think that, because he was involved in entertainment, Ed McMahon was possessed of millions.

That would not be true.

He worked hard for every dollar earned. He frequently donated "voiceovers" to many causes. When Johnny Carson died in 2005, thing changed once again.

Despite his many business ventures, McMahon encountered hard times in his last years. He faced foreclosure on his Beverly Hills mansion last year after falling behind in payments on $4.8 million in mortgages. In the end a deal was worked out allowing him to stay in his home, but he was also being sued over other debts.

Could you, will you, consistently work into your 80s?

Perhaps we should all step back and appreciate another passing designee of The Greatest Generation.

Where work didn't stop. No matter where or how the celebrity.

Wow.. He was an awesome man. For anyone who does want to criticize him for struggling in his last years.. It wasn't like he bought his mansion knowing he couldn't pay for it. It is totally different.

We all fall on hard times at some season in our lives, we just hope it isn't in the latter stages like with McMahon.

We fell on our hard times when my husband's business went under, but that was a while ago and we have had time to recover.

I have learned that nothing is guaranteed and we need to be thankful when we are making it because it may not always be that way.

Ed had class. He was one of the few from the comdey sector that had class that was still living.

Back then comedy was pretty funny, now it is about seeing how liberal you can get and slamming those on the right.

If I can continue to do what I've always done to make a living then I'll keep doing it until the day I die.

It's not work, I've never worked a day in my life.

By work I mean having to be someplace I didn't want to be, do something I didn't want to do.

McMahon did what he wanted to do, everyday, he just got paid to do it.

McMahon had a "simple" medical proceedure that went bad. He was suing for malpractice and was unable to work. Thats why he almost lost the home.
He was class, just like Carson was. For 30 yrs he played second fiddle and sure didnt seem to mind it one bit.
When the time came to be in the spotlite he was very powerful in Hollywood. For years after Carson he was THE man to go to if you were starting out.

Rivka,

Here's a NewFlash for you....

Documents Back Saudi Link to Extremists

WASHINGTON — Documents gathered by lawyers for the families of Sept. 11 victims provide new evidence of extensive financial support for Al Qaeda and other extremist groups by members of the Saudi royal family, but the material may never find its way into court because of legal and diplomatic obstacles.

At least Obama isn't having them over for dinner and drinks.

GWB had them over after they murdered over 3000 Americans.

Fuck GWB and anyone that ever supported this asshole.

Now back to your recent post.

Rivka: I'd much rather encounter my hardships whilst young and malleable, rather than later in life. So correct!

Ranando: and how lucky you are to do what you love and to be able to do it on into your planned later years! A blessing indeed.

WMD: I didn't hear about the procedure that "went bad." What was it, by the way?

TF: I very much enjoyed watching Johnny and Ed. They were both class acts and played extremely well upon each other.

He was a stand up kinda guy. He did some stuff about credit repair before he died. It was a cute little rap video where he talked about the dangers of living beyond your means and not taking personal responsibility. Sad he is gone. I know he is in heaven enjoying himself right now:)

He had a fall at a social event in early 2007. He went to the hospital and was discharged and LATER learned he had a broken neck. He had several operations lasting into at least mid 2008 during which he was not able to work (more than likely from extreme constant pain).

Wordsmith: first, welcome aboard, thanks for visiting, and thanks for taking the time to comment. Just went over to YOUR blog and, I must say, very nicely done sir. With one slight exception: you've "fallen off the truck," "left the Reservation," clearly. Man, are you gonna get completely exCORiated from the "Progressive Left." Holy crap, man. Duck and cover!

At the rate my property taxes are rising on a 1935 house, I may have to work into my 80s too!

I always liked Ed McMahon. May he rest in peace.

At least the tax man can no longer hassle him.

AOW: and I had no idea his problems stemmed from a recent incident, as WMD indicated. Even sadder still.
