(in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Iran Update

I'm certain you're aware of the demonstrations occurring in Iran -- demonstrations that have been ongoing for four days now -- following the Iranian presidential elections wherein Admadinnerjacket allegedly won a landslide over fellow candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi (not a particularly pristine candidate himself). From Bloomberg news:

Today’s protest follows a June 15 rally that was the largest anti-government demonstration since the Islamic revolution ousted Iran’s shah in 1979, triggered by opposition accusations of vote-rigging to re-elect President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Several people were reported killed. Tehran’s bazaar merchants, a group that backed the 1979 revolution, may strike to protest the election, the BBC said.

The estimate of civilians killed range from one to 8 to 12 to 20.

A man named "Sam" on Z's blog (geeeeeeZ!) wrote in her comments of this post:

Hi zin; Many thanks to Pris and you and all the BRAVE Americans who support our uprising, Just now, there is a Bloody FIGHT between the youth and the regimes thugs in VANAK SQUARE at the north of Tehran, TODAY, again 8 deaths till this hour, Please go to this site below http://www.ncr-iran.org/ Prey for our young people; THANKS, SAM

Sam recommends this website for an update (Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran; quite well done, actually) and then subsequently makes this additional comment:

Hi zin; Please don' persist where am I; Moussavi has participated on the Genocide of the 30,000 prisoners 21 years ago when he was the prime minister, There is no difference between those 4 candidates, all of them were approved by Khameneii, the people have profited from their internal struggle to up rise. We are against all of them, Moussavi asked the people to enter to their house, he wants to save the Mullahs regime. For the Rifles, yes Zin we have seen their MADE IN AUSTRIA. Zin, in BABOL, a northern city, a green dressed commando was arrested by the students, HE COULDN'T SPEAK PERSIAN!!! Venezuelan I guess. Zin, if we were not Disarmed by the US FORCES on 2003, we could overthrow the MILLAHS in two days, without having the thousands of victims, Zin, do you remmember 2 years ago, when I said on FPM that there is a plot against your forces in IRAQ, and against GWB?!! I can not write more now, I'll tell you why all the US ADMINISTRATIONS WERE SUPPORTING the Mullahs from 30 years ago till now, GWB didn't wanted to continue this dirty politics, that's why he was smashed. he was the only one who resisted, but, even GWB did a huge mistake by keeping our resistance on his terror list, And OBM was born from that mistake. The History never forgives the monumental mistakes. SAM

Might this actually be the fomentation of real revolution in Iran? Can the regime be toppled?

The people of Iran stand up to be counted... the regime couldn't get what it wanted in a *crooked* election, so they just burned the ballots and made up numbers. While Mousavi is no great shakes, it is possible that even a very, very mild 'reformer' can shift from that once there is a popular uprising.

In our modern times we have seen peaceful massive changes in government: Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Philippines. Those have come out well.

Then there are the less than peaceful but limited bloodshed ones: USSR, Romania, Argentina, Nicaragua. Those are not so good, overall, and leave things unsteady afterwards.

Trial by fire is the most well known: Russia twice in 1917, Cambodia, Cuba. Those all get death tolls with at least one comma in the numbering just for the revolution.

Iran is facing up to a tyrannical regime with the unhappy coincidence of a sclerotic clergy, a Praetorian Guard (IRGC), a religious police that answers the question... 'which fascist police makes the SS look good in comparison?' which are the Baseej, Hezbollah and HAMAS thugs brought in to help, and central Asian thugs from Uzbekistan and a few other places just to crack heads, arms, legs, and often just shoot people.

Don't mind the Red Mafia coercing money out of Iran so that Iran can get natural gas, the rationing of natural gas, the purchasing of gasoline on the open market as their petroleum extraction and processing systems are going to collapse in a year or two, 40% unemployment, 60-70% of the population under 30, civil servants going for months at a time without a paycheck, children unable to get properly educated and young adults unable to attend college due to finances.....

Yes a 'moderate' of the mildest form could actually shift a bit in a climate like that when a few million people show up on a daily basis to protest the regime. Plus the regime has the lovely thing of all these people being unemployed so the minimal economy can stay OPEN while the protests go on. Lovely, no? It was just a couple of years ago I pointed to Iran being near the tipping point. This is just about on schedule, really.

My fullest support to the people of Iran.

America has a President who cannot say the words 'Liberty' and 'Freedom' in any regards for anyone, ever. A Charlie-Foxtrot President.

Now we shall see what will win out, it is cell phones vs guns. If the former wins the regime will go peacefully... but that is near enough to a dead letter that I doubt it. Thus the fire and blood ahead if the regime cannot realize it is their heads on pikes that will be the end of this. Good riddance to them. They deserve it.

Soon, very soon, that will be America.

Thanks, BZ..
I want to warn you all, but do NOT want to dampen the enthusiasm because I BELIEVE it's well warranted....his group, MEK IS on OUR TERROR list......and there's plenty of INFO on it. I got some emails privately today warning me, but OH, TRUST ME, I have been through the WRINGER with SAM, questioning him, accusing him, etc etc for almost 4 years! At Frontpagemag.com..we both commented there A LOT. He turned everyone around on their thinking of MEK over there about 2 years ago, finally.

He's real, he's pro American, he likes Bush...hates Obama.
BUT, he DOES say our admimistrations HAVE bolstered the mullahs, which is a REAL tough one for most of us (including me) to take. Hmmm.

He's a very good guy and his life's in danger.

If MEK was still so TERRORISTIC, why would we be protecting FOUR THOUSAND of them in Ashraf, Iraq? WE are protecting them. yup. He was there, but he can't tell me where he is now. And things were getting tough in Ashraf last time I heard from him, six months or so ago.

BZ..I DO think there's something HUGE going on..and I'm proud and happy you posted this..thanks SO much, because I believe in SAM ..I really do. Just wanted to fend off the naysayers. OH, have I BEEN THERE with HIM!! :0-)

is this true?
A Jacksonian, BZ? Do you know? It sure looks real.
I fear for our country. And, if we say anything, we're 'rightwing nuts and should be silenced for being so silly'.

I know "enemy of my enemy is my friend" geopolitics. It's never good in the long term.

My only concern is that offers of help to SAM, innocent or not, are serious business, particularly because of the MEK's status as a terrorist group. Don't give our own totalitarians in Washington DC cause to come after you.

The fact that Saddam Hussein gave them to ability to be para-national terrorists - striking multiple targets in several countries simultaneously - reminds me of the same assistance Saddam gave to Egyptian Islamic Jihad to get them to merge with Osama Bin Laden's Al Qaeda.

MEK attacks within Iran would only bolster the mullahcracy's justifications for cracking down on them.

From what I understand the MEK forces in Iraq are not so much being "helped" as they are being "kept alive" and "detained" - their camp is the site of some allegations against our soldiers for "torturing" prisoners - true or not, the MEK in Iraq are basically prisoners under guard. Both to keep them from continuing terrorism (against anyone) and for their protection - as they helped brutalize the Iraq Shia during Saddam's crackdown on the uprising in 1991. Lots of Iraqi Shia probably want them dead, not to mention the enemies they made in Iran after running to Saddam's arms in the first place.

I know it's complex, but the MEK was trained directly by the Iraqi Mukhabarat under Saddam. That's reason enough for me to be leery of them. Para-national terrorism is at the heart of our war on terror. It's what we're fighting.

Should the Iranian regime be toppled and replaced? Yes.

Should it be replaced by another faction of terrorists? No.

Just a pragmatic concern. As long as MEK is listed as a terrorist group by our government, offering them help is against the law.

Don't think Democrats won't throw you under the bus.

Thanks, Beamish. I have to admit I edited some of my comments to him at my site.

I would never support a group of terrorists (!) and I have to admit I've been curious why Condi would have put him on there...I think they were OFF then she put them back ON, which DID give me some pause.

You're right.......none of us knows enough to really make a judgment. And, none of us wants to support a group against our government. (even this one..smile!)

I guess we ALL are so excited that the PEOPLE could get somewhere against the Iranian, America-threatening thugocracy that we jump on SAM...like you said "the enemy of my enemy.."

I hope his group has tamed since their terrorist days...they seem to have, but who knows?

Thanks. BZ, sorry to cause you any discomfort at all with this.

I am praying tonight for all of those brave people that a more sane and just government is possible.
It will be bloody though.
And the women need to be a part of it!

Mousavi is not a walk in the park. This is no revolution at all. We are not getting real news about this issue at all because of the biases of the msm.

I think he is just as hard line as Ahmadijenad and his actions show this. A true revolution would be that neither of those guys are acceptable to the people.

AJ: wow. What a summary. Which is why, once again, if people want to know what's really going on, they read YOU.

Z: thanks. I'm wondering where Sam's getting the "US embraces the mullahs" idea. That completely escapes me. I'm just interested in his perspective, and I've thrown in the "uncertain" factor as well.

Beamish: thanks for visiting, welcome aboard, and thanks for taking the time to comment! I offer no "help" to Sam but find his comments interesting as they appear to source from Iran itself at this time.

PCC: I suspect you are quite right.

CB: the problem in Iran is not with the general population at all, I believe. The Supreme Leader, President and other politicos and religious asswipes are the problem.

Mahndisa: as I wrote, Mousavi isn't the ideal challenger. But if he's the impetus that instigates political and religious turnover and tends to free up the populace, then so be it.

As of this writing, there is even a more massive rally planned today in Teheran, in DEFIANCE of their so-called "Supreme Leader." THIS may be a tipping point.

What an incredible post from an Iranian on site there.

I saw only one thing different with Mousavi. He has daughters and a wife who campaigned with him - everywhere! Unheard of in Iran. She was on the podium at every campaign event and always spoke. They hold hands in public - very frowned upon. His wife is a professor. She knows how to rebel - she wears a headscarf adorned with flowers:-)

Perhaps, just perhaps, women and girls would get some kind of break from this man if he were in office.

Having said that, I hope these brave people can find the will to overthrow all of these monsters. Very interesting comment about being throttled because they have no weapons. Of course, I knew that, but didn't know the rest of the story, as Sam presents it.

Also - the GWB angle. Much to think about.

Some very informative exchanges...It's SAM's turn next, as of 8PM PST Thursday.
Let's see what he says.....

BZ, I think I got some comments mixed up between here and your Five Year Anniversary Post. Anyway, you know what I was saying, and I don't under the GWB angle either.

Sorry if I confused things.
