Bloviating Zeppelin: Is America Prepared? Are Our Children?

Bloviating Zeppelin

(in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Is America Prepared? Are Our Children?

So what does it all mean?

Very simple:

It means that we are already dooming our children to failure by valuing their esteem instead of their knowledge, overvaluing their sense of place in the world, minimizing the importance of discipline and learning -- all whilst undermining courage, sacrifice, rugged individualism, bravery, risk-taking.

Too many basketball players, drummers, flutists, painters, rappers, sloths, parasites, complainers, defeatists, poets, social workers, attorneys, philosophers, singers, celebrities -- instead of teachers, scientists, plumbers, doctors, mechanics, inventors, mathematicians, nurses, electricians, people interested in trades, people interested in hard science, people who are PRODUCERS.

This is currently a defeatist educational track for our children.

Thoughts?

Oh, boo-fucking-hoo, that's right, I'm such a VICtim, no one wants to hire me because I'm replete with full body and face tattoos, pierced everything, split tongue -- because, after all, I'm an indivIDual.

And, of course, when I can't find work (if I even tried) I either go home to Mommy and Daddy and live in their basement again, or I want my Free Cheese from government.

My wife decided to go for her PsyD in the fall. I asked my tree hugging libby cousin what he plans to do with his life. He still doesn't know and he's 30 yrs old! I asked him about going to college and he said its for robots who are brainwashed by the man and for overachievers. As a spouse of a very smart wife, I ripped him a new asshole. I then asked him how many professors, CEOs, and highly successful people have full body tatoos, piercings on their face, and mohawks? NONE! Even though I love old punk rocj and I like mohawks, I would never hire someone who looks like that. These morons are digging their own grave and we'll be paying for them. They don't think about the future. I'm not saying tattoos are bad, just be smart and get them to where they can be covered up.

There aren't enough highly educated.people in this world. This world will become like that movie Idiocracy.

On the other hand, Chris, I have to ask you: WHO is taking care of this 30-year-old? Is HE taking care of HIMSELF?

God bless your wife; she knows what she wants and she knows how to get it!

In the meantime, I'd say it's way PAST DUE for some general American Overachievement again.

Not long ago I had to read a book for work called Generation Me. It was nothing but a book justifying why Gen X is nothing but whiners.

The one valid point was this: we have spent their childhood telling the now young adults that no one was better than they are, no one was more special. We let them grow up thinking they're all that and a bag of chips and now we're paying the price because they believed us.

They go out into the world saying 'here I am' and they don't understand it when the world's response is "So?"

On the other side, however, are young people like my nieces. One is a social worker, working with kids with special needs. The other has been a horse owner since she was 11 and bought her first horse with her own money. She works hard at her job and then she goes to the barn after work and works even harder. I'm unbelievably proud of them both.

So, to answer your question - some are; some aren't.

Being a commissioned car salesman means you get paid exactly what you are worth. Don't produce? You are gone. I watched hundreds come and go; it was too hard for them.

They would look at the big, shambling, redneck and complain about how unfair it was he got the big paychecks. A few would humble themselves and accept help. In a year they turned into me. Ever meet a redneck black man?

Redneck doesn't mean racist. It is an attitude of personal responsibility and pride.

cj: I concur; many / most parents -- and SCHOOLS -- BEAT "self esteem" into the kids. THEIR bad. But we STILL need MORE scientists, etc. The world couldn't care LESS about what we're doing to ourselves UNLESS it comes to their receiving FEWER American dollars.

WSF: I suppose I could have been a Captain or a Chief Deputy on my department. If I were willing to play that game, I could have done so. I was not, so I am not any higher rank than Sergeant. I didn't fight and sacrifice for it, so I don't deserve it.

You are so right.

We were talking to our 12 year old grandson about his future. Yes, he's young yet, but he's smart. Everything we mentioned he had a retort like, "but I don't like (fill in the blank). Everything seemed to be too much education, too much studying, blah blah blah. He wanted something EASY.

Hopefully he will change as he matures.

About 250 years ago a group of the most selfless future thinkers that ever gathered assembled this great nation.
Forward to today, You can't find a more selfish ego driven group then those who are starting out in the work force today. They expect a prize for simply showing up even if they are late.

Pretty sad. I hope we have hit bottom and are now ready to turn this around.

His mother takes care of him! The idea of free money seems to be the root of the issue. This generation (mine, sadly) has everything at their disposal. Information, though we take it for granted, was harder to access a few years ago. People actually had to go to a library, use the dewey decimal system to find the book, then search the book for the answers. Now, a simple keyword search does the trick. The instant gratification issue is going to kill intellect. There is a whole science to doing research and finding answers. Many people in my stats class don't even know how to read an analog clock! We shun the smart breeds of man in this society. We see them as nerds, loosers, and not in tune with modern culture. But then again, who works for a dumb CEO? The nerds are in charge and will save the world one day. We look to them to find cures for pathogenic issues. And yet there is no thank you to those of a higher education. They are the silent puppeteers of society now. Its sad BZ.

Debbie: I didn't have the first clue as to what I wanted to do with my life at 12 -- all I knew is that what my parents said, I did. Because if I didn't Mom would be pissed and Dad might even be told. Dad's customary retort was something similar to "if you want to cry, I'll give you something to REALLY cry about."

ablur: let me give you a little local illustration in reliability. A small town McDonalds's that I frequent, right off a major interstate (I-80), has gone through its various "changes" itself. First the employees were local kids. Then they were Mexicans who, mostly, spoke fair English. Supplanting all that now? White males and females in their 60s and beyond. There's one gal that I joke with who can kick some MAJOR order ass.

One day I asked the young Manager why that was. He replied: "Because they come to work every day."

'Nuff said.

Chris: at 30, man, I couldn't face any of my friends if they found out I was still living with Mommy. I'd have been too damned embarrassed.

"We shun the smart breeds of man in this society."

This is no more apparent than major portions of current popular black culture. "Keepin' it real" includes keeping blacks stupid, uneducated and unable to be independent -- to the detriment of blacks in America and the benefit of the Demorats and Leftists who pile up dead black male bodies whilst seeking only more POWER.

I deal with the problem of the "I/Me/Mine" generation every day at work. Some of those kids, I reach. Some continue to slough off, cruising through life by the seat of their pants. And, at least at this level, some are finally taught that they ARE allowed to fail.

Having said that: most drummers and flutists (and all the other instrumentalists and vocalists) who come under my tutelage end up working pretty damn hard. And then they take that hard work ethic out to the schools to be teachers themselves. One, two, a dozen at a time…we're trying to get kids back on track, and show them that hard work is the surest way to live a fulfilling life.

I'm a music prof; I teach lower-division written and aural theory classes, along with some general-ed classes like jazz history, music appreciation and world music. That, plus private composition lessons.

Real simple. Children must be taught by discipline to "learn' skills.
Yes, skills.
THEY DO NOT COME NATURALLY!
In teaching these skills, the parent must apply discipline, when needed, to keep the child on the path of learning.
Reward is then used as an accelerator, to keep the student progressing.
This is called motivation.

That's it folks.

Most liberal schools, of any level, have always had problems with this axiom.

But always remember, the adult family member must be the one to start this process, not the Youth Authority.
