Sixty-Eight Years Ago:

My parents were married 68 years ago yesterday.

They -- ahem -- "displeased" their parents by eloping to Reno, Nevada in 1942.

My mother passed away in 2002 at the age of 80; my father last year at the age of 88.

Happy Anniversary, Dad and Mom. I love you both.

See? We're still thinking about you.

BZ

P.S.
My wife and I did the same thing, in Nevada, in 2007.

What a great tribute. It must have been true love, because it lasted forever. Same to you and your wife. My hubby and I will be celebrating 38 years of marriage this year.

Have a great Sunday.

Thus it is how those who have passed guide our hand to this very day.

Happy Anniversary!

May we remember many more together.

What a good looking couple they were!

My parents would've been married 59 years last March. My dad's been gone since 1977 and there are still times when it feels like yesterday. My mom went to join him in 2003.

I think about both of them often.

Wow, that's a long time, & I've gotten the impression from some of your previous posts that they still liked each other. I'm finding the whole marriage thing harder than it looks.
Your Mom was quite the Betty!

BZ,
My parents were married 56 years when my dad passed in 2008. Congratulations to your parents.

cj: it's been slightly over one year for my Dad's passing and I find it still tough. I know most of you find it tedious, but I still find it tough. I purposely try to limit my reflections of my parents here on the blog. My brothers have both gotten past it. I'm still being foolish.

Mrs Bunker: they truly loved each other. They had good and bad times and they never said ONE word bad about each other in public or around us kids. They stayed through thick and thin. They were, in reflection, amazing parents. A generation past.

LOT: man, sorry to hear of your father passing. It's not easy.

This is a lovely tribute BZ. What a sad day when families see these anniversaries come and go, and don't even give them a thought. My parents would have been married 69 years this summers if my Dad was still alive. As it is, my brothers and I begin talking with Mother about it days in advance, and while we don't celebrate, we surely acknowledge it.

This is a beautiful pic. I know it is cherished.

Thank you Maggie. It is a moment frozen in time, a moment I'll treasure until my very own death.

Tedious BZ?
Most either have, or will, experience losing parents, the foundation of our lives.
I lost Dad in 2003.
You write about your feelings, and I, for one, will almost certainly be reminded of similar emotions.
It's therapy for us all.

BZ -

You are not being tedious nor am I tired of hearing about your dad. Like I said, even after 33 years I still have days when I miss my dad terribly.

We all grieve at our own pace, in our own way. If talking about your parents here helps you with that process, more power to you. Reading your thoughts on your father helps me feel closer to mine. So please, carry on.
