Moonbat of the Week Award


And the award goes to:

Congressman John R. "Jack" Murtha (D), Pennsylvania's 12th District.

For a "nobody" Democratic congressman, the 73-year-old Murtha (ever hear of him before?) certainly made a stir this past week, suggesting that the United States totally pull out of Iraq in 6 months. Period.

But wait, there's more. This is a former Marine, decorated, and at one time considered a Hawk amongst Democrats.

From his own official website, Murtha says "The war in Iraq is not going as advertised. It is a flawed policy wrapped in illusion." Further, he writes:

Our military has done everything that has been asked of them, the U.S. can not accomplish anything further in Iraq militarily. IT IS TIME TO BRING THEM HOME.

Wrong, Congressman Murtha. Literally: dead wrong.

I'll honor your past; I'll honor your serving in the Marines. And that is where my honor ends. I will not honor, however, your lack of stomach or balls for staying the course in a Presidential strategy that will determine the future security of our entire nation.

I do not know why you have chosen your path. But your fellow Democrats have left you hanging in the breeze. In fact, the entire Congress has left you, and rightfully so, you callow defeatist, because even the most left-leaning socialist realizes this is a failed strategy and will not play with the American public.

The Democrats Fold When Actually Opposed:

After folding themselves earlier this week, another Republican mustered the cojones to make a proposal to the Dems: put up or shut up.

In a 403 to 3 vote, the Democrats elected to shut up.

Following three hours of intense debate, the House voted this evening 403-3 to reject a non-binding resolution to immediately withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq.

Responding to a call yesterday by Democratic Rep. Jack Murtha of Pennsylvania to withdraw troops from Iraq, House Republicans had scheduled a quick vote this evening to settle the issue and put lawmakers on the record.

The Republican alternative read: "It is the sense of the House of Representatives that the deployment of United States forces in Iraq be terminated immediately." It was proposed by Rep. Duncan Hunter of California.

During the House session late Friday afternoon, Democrats erupted in anger when Republican Rep. Jean Schmidt of Ohio quoted Ohio state Rep. Danny Bubp, a Marine Corps Reserve officer. "He asked me to send Congress a message: "Stay the course,'" she said. "He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message, that 'Cowards cut and run. Marines never do.' "

The House went nuts. But a return message was sent. And these overpaid assholes stayed in their seats until midnight.

Murtha is still a Chamberlain Moonbat, and his military record won't extricate him from this, nor should it.

And the Republicans are finally, finally, starting to fire back.

I hope it isn't too little too late.

Yeah you are back in full force eh? Good for you. I hope you are feeling better as well. Good post! I especially like to the link to appeasement philosophy. Geesh that helps a society be stable! NOT! I just don't get the naivitee of these people. I honestly think Mr. Murthra does have a good thought in mind; end the killings. But that is the extent of the goodness...I always thought that since GB didn't finish the job, we would have to sooner or later. GWB didn't pick the best timing to do so, but damnet we need to finish the job before we pack up and leave! Ah Blo Zep this is so complicated! But I figure, what good is an exit strategy when an exit will go to a civil war? We should stay there longer and see what happens, imho. And yeah all the killing bothers me, but then again: Freedom ain't free! I just wish there was a way to reduce the amount of troops there and reduce the amount of money we spend on it. When some troops come home, they can participate in our economy again.

Mahndisa: Wow! Great to read your response! IMHO Murtha has thought absolutely nothing through and has responded, for whatever reason, when he was feeling docile and silly.

Mahndisa, on one hand it makes sense to partake of plans; on another level it makes NO SENSE to let one's enemies know of these plans in a public venue! What are the Democrats thinking? Would we have wanted to make our strategies known during WWI? WWII? Korea? Even Vietnam?

This all bothers me as well. But I will attempt to assemble it all together when I answer Robert's question in my next post -- I haven't forgotten that. I've been trying to craft my response and thinking about what I would say.

I fear it is truly this: a war beyond wars that will last beyond my generation and into the next. This isn't about Large Global Squares. It is so much less and, then, so much more.

Yes I do Blo Zep and it terrifies me. And I agree that announcing plans to ones enemies is DUMB at best. My biggest concern is that a continuing long scale intergenerational war will bankrupt us. And you know how I feel about our money!!!

BTW, Robert may have posed a good question but he is a troll. If you look at the post on my blog called Demons and Trolls, that hate site is run by his little troll cronies and they say mean things. I realized this because he visited my site a few days before I got the first set of bad comments. Then he visited after the hate site was put up to demean me...But in any event, I look forward to your response. As I have said, I think torture can be necessary at times if lives are at stake. And the point of war is to win, IMHO. But then again, we needn't destroy the earth in the process!

These people calling for an end to the military presence in Iraq have a point. I move that we pull all military personnel from Germany now. We are not doing any good there and so many have died.

There may be a few posts in the meantime, but I'm definitely working on an answer, not necessarily for him, but as a response in general -- and it forces me into clarifying my thoughts.

I must say i am with you, except regarding money. I put the safety of our nation above money. Long term war is exactly what this means, and yes, we will have to spend lots of money.

But, if we stop our pre-emptive leanings, we will end up getting nuked. Plain and simple. then we won't have much of a free U.S.A. to spend money in. The deficit won't matter.

Honestly, I know you understand the crux of where we are at regarding keeping our freedoms.
And, I KNOW you would not want us to be Nuked.

However, I am concerned that most Americans are asleep at the wheel and don't realize the brevity of what we are dealing with in the middle east.
It is flat out scary. I am not building a bomb shelter or anything, but I do think there is a HUGE possibility of the next attack being nuclear.
Iran is pretty scary now. I have a recent post linking you to the recent article on Drudge about Newt warning us of an inevitable nuclear attack by Iran via detinating in our atmosphere to make it easier to get over here.

We can not afford to allow the leftist wackos of the democratic party to have any power what-so-ever. We are in a different world.
We can't elect cut and run politicians.
Maybe we should vacate Germany and other places we aren't needed, so that we can pre-empt in Iran, and other rogue nations that post a threat. We are free, and haven't been free for very long, we could lose that freedom if we get too socialistic/secularist in our thinking.

This is serious business, and I am afraid we are too concerned with being 'fair' to the enemy(I.E. criticizing how we torture to get information)., and not wanting our men in harms way to get hurt by pulling out too soon. They are in the military because they want to protect our freedoms and are fully aware that dying is part of the sacrifice. These men are heros..
They are not whimps who want out when the going gets tough.. They are a voluntary force!

We need to dialogue more about this new threat to our nation, our lives and our freedom. It is real.

Rebecca: thank you very much for the very kind comments. Regarding the rest of your comment, I hope to tie it all together in a day or two when I stop letting my money job interfere with my blogging job. I've written and re-written a response twice already, and it didn't go where I wished. I hope to encapsulate how I feel with deduction, strategy, common sense and an attempt to "do the logical extension" in a way that very few have addressed before.

In my opinion, this war is so much more critical than most could ever imagine and laying down something as simplistic and puerile as "an exit strategy" offends the mortal losses we have so far sustained.

To be blunt: Islamist terrorists crashed planes into OUR buildings on OUR soil, using OUR aircraft and killing OUR passengers and OUR fellow workers and citizens, taking out a portion of OUR Pentagon and wishing they could have struck OUR Capitol and OUR White House.

Too many of us seem to have forgotten that fact pattern on September 11th, 2001.

Steven Tucker: welcome aboard, and come visit frequently! Yes, it is discouraging when I read and hear of the various Dem views. I have yet to quite understand why one would want to jeopardize the security of one's home nation, even just a little bit.

With some Beyond Moonbat exceptions (huh; sounds like another award I may have to bestow when appropriate!), I think most Democrats actually do not wish this to be true, but they tend to let their idealistic and frequently simplistic worldviews obstruct their common sense.

Most Dems and liberal appear to have this in common: an inability to understand the true nature of Evil, that Evil exists, frequently for its own sake because it is easy, simple, insane and occasionally fun. One cannot reason with Evil, one cannot sit down to a mahogany table with some nice Zinfandel and come to a peaceful understanding unless it involves absolute and unilateral accession to Evil.

That is the nature of Evil.

Great post. I wholeheartedly agree that Murtha deserves the moonbat award. I was so glad the Republicans forced the democrats to put up or shut up. It is about time.

LMC: I was pleased, but surprised, that the GOP did what it did on that Friday. They are reliving, again and again, that day. As though it meant something amazing.
