Bloviating Zeppelin: Are You Ready For $50 Dollar FEDERALLY-MANDATED Lightbulbs?

Bloviating Zeppelin

(in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Are You Ready For $50 Dollar FEDERALLY-MANDATED Lightbulbs?

FIFTY DOLLARS for ONE light bulb.

No, I'm sorry, this is not a joke. And I suspect you've not heard of this until now. Because the DEM/MSM has been doing its best to carry the water for Obama and his Religious Leftists.

From YahooNews:

NEW YORK – Two leading makers of lighting products are showcasing LED bulbs that are bright enough to replace energy-guzzling 100-watt light bulbs set to disappear from stores in January.

Their demonstrations at the LightFair trade show in Philadelphia this week mean that brighter LED bulbs will likely go on sale next year, but after a government ban takes effect.

The new bulbs will also be expensive — about $50 each — so the development may not prevent consumers from hoarding traditional bulbs.

The technology in traditional "incandescent" bulbs is more than a century old. Such bulbs waste most of the electricity that feeds them, turning it into heat. The 100-watt bulb, in particular, produces so much heat that it's used in Hasbro's Easy-Bake Oven.

To encourage energy efficiency, Congress passed a law in 2007 mandating that bulbs producing 100 watts worth of light meet certain efficiency goals, starting in 2012. Conventional light bulbs don't meet those goals, so the law will prohibit making or importing them. The same rule will start apply to remaining bulbs 40 watts and above in 2014. Since January, California has already banned stores from restocking 100-watt incandescent bulbs.

Which is why I went to Nevada recently to create my MASSIVE stock of regular light bulbs from the Reno Home Depot, which should keep me in stock, cheaply, for years. And who takes responsibility for MY electric bills?

Why yes, that would be ME. I PAY my own electric bills.

Screw your mercury-laden CFL bulbs, federal government.

Not like I didn't write about CFLs here and here and here and here.

And screw your FIFTY-DOLLAR light bulbs. I OWN my electricity and I choose to utilize it as I wish. Because I paid for it.

Of course, naturally, the "poor" will have THEIR light bulbs SUBSIDIZED. All they have to do is proffer one mere tear.

YOU want to pay $50 for ONE light bulb?

You go right ahead. Be my trembling toady guest.

And ask yourself: how many light bulbs are in your home? Perhaps you should multiply that number times $50. Plus: what about obscure, boutique bulbs? What about the bulb in your oven? Could that be a CFL and withstand the temperature? Perhaps some mercury lovingly-splashed, when broken, over your roast or your chicken or your casserole?

Ah yes, your loving Religious Leftists at work.

Notice how all these "reforms" are intended to destroy the middle class? soon you will just have "the entitled" class and the poor, who must depend completely on "the entitled". that's all this is, just a simple power play. shame we are letting it happen.

I'm trying to buy four or five lightbulbs each time I go to the store now..REAL lightbulbs that don't need HazMat suits to be disposed of. I've not been leaving any lights on when I leave anymore, either...I never liked to keep the house totally dark when I was gone but I am preserve the sane lightbulbs I love.
These are a metaphor for our rights....soon, we won't be able to buy the ones WE WANT...we're having even lightbulbs pushed down our throats (not an easy fete!)
I wish I could go to NV and get some, I'd buy boxes full.
I hate this whole thing and fear it's only the tip of the iceberg.

Have you ever had to replace the LED's in the third brake light on your automobile? Yikes!!!

I had an 87 Camaro that had six led's. Had to replace two at 20 bux a pop!

Tactics. You push something entirely wrong. You make it extreme. People howl; you back partially back off. People grumble but accept. Then it doesn't matter it was wrong to begin with.

The bastards do it over and over because it WORKS. An adaptation of the long march philosophy.

How to combat it? Insurrection comes to mind.

Hi Blo . . Jeez did you meet a light bulb on the wrong side of somewhere? Diatribes seem not to be effective. Let's try replacing Congress with Kilroy. You remember Kilroy don't you? He didn't do anything either - but he was cheap!

I used to use the 100 watt light-bulb and realized they died out pretty fast, stick with the 60 and 40 and they last.

There is no way I will pay $50 for one stupid light bulb. Are those people insane???

Dixon: are standard incandescents legal in your state? And for how long?

LED light bulbs technology is making inroads in every market, with an LED bulb for any application. LEDs have a long list of advantages over incandescent and CFL lighting. A common complaint about compact fluorescents is the ramp-up time to full brightness. Instant-on CFLs provide light instantly, but still require time to reach full brightness. LED light bulbs provide full illumination from the moment they’re turned on. A lot of people taking Electrical Continuing Education will definitely agree with me.

Haley, that's all nice and everything, but making it a mandate and then charging an exorbitant rate -- up to 10+ times the price of one incandescent -- per unit strikes me as "fleecing." And grates against my Libertarian mien completely.

Then telling me I need "education" smacks, to me, a child of the 50s, of fascist/Marxist "re-education camps." Again, grates muchly. Akin to "Reducation."
