Bloviating Zeppelin: The War Of Propaganda

Bloviating Zeppelin

(in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

The War Of Propaganda

First: The Masters of Propaganda Continue:

Iranian President Ahmadinejad wants reparations for damage to Lebanon:

President Ahmadi-Nejad said that Iran calls for an end to the current hostility in Lebanon and the aggressor should pay reparations for the damages it inflicted on civilian infrastructure of Lebanon. He called on the Hague-based International Court of Justice (ICJ) to bring to justice Israeli officials for the war crimes they perpetrated against civilians of Lebanon and Palestine.

Second: Journalists HELP Islamists Win The Propaganda War:

Michelle Malkin calls it "fauxtography" in her post. And all it does is assist Militant Islam with their own propaganda war against Western Nations. To wit:

It's the story that the journalistic elite would rather just go away. In the aftermath of Reuters' admission that one of its photographers, Adnan Hajj, had manipulated two war images from Lebanon after bloggers smoked out his crude Photoshop alterations, and all 920 of his Reuters photos were pulled, evidence of far more troubling photo staging and media deception in the Middle East continues to pour in.

Such as the above photo amply illustrates. Again, let me be blunt: with a name such as Adnan Hajj, are you, clear thinker you, even remotely shocked? And yet Reuters happily trots out bunches of photos then, only later, after having been caught in the scam, grudgingly pulls them -- luckily, all of them (that I can determine).

And our journalists are assisting in the Propaganda Scam On The West:

Washington Post photographer Michael Robinson-Chavez, who was at Qana, huffed: "Everyone was dead, many of them children. Nothing was set up." But last week, a German television station aired damning video footage from the scene showing a lead propaganda director (dubbed the "Green Helmet Guy") positioning a young boy's corpse, yanking it from an ambulance, placing it on two different stretchers for the cameras and pushing bystanders out of the way for clearer shots.

Chavez was indignant that people should think things were staged. Imagine! Staged photographs by possible Left-leaning papers attempting to make money "working" interests against the United States? In the 40s and 50s this would have been completely unthinkable.

Now it's a given and commonplace.

Third: Never Let The Facts Intrude Upon Good Propaganda:

The facts: Hezbollah kidnapped the original two Israeli soldiers on July 12th in an unprovoked and premeditated attack.

• The attack also took the lives of eight Israeli soldiers and took place under cover of a barrage of Hezbollah rocket fire.
• The attack was carried out across the internationally recognised northern border between Lebanon and Israel.
• Hezbollah is part of Lebanon 's Government. Even if the Lebanese Government didn't know the attack was planned, Hezbollah's action constituted an act of war by one sovereign country against another
• Hezbollah's very existence violates international law. Under UN Security Council Resolution 1559 of 2005, The Lebanese Government was obliged to disarm and disband Hezbollah. It did not do so, and Hezbollah is now an active part of the Lebanon government itself.
• Neither Hezbollah nor Lebanon have a legitimate territorial claim against Israel. Israeli withdrew completely from South Lebanon in May of 2000.
• Israel had to respond because territory is not at stake, but Israel 's right to exist is.
• Hezbollah rejects Israel 's right to exist. If Hezbollah or other groups believe that they can use the territory they control to attack Israel with impunity inside Israel 's recognised borders, there will never be peace. Period.
• Israel did not wish to see this escalation. It has been forced upon Israel . And while Israel wishes to free the kidnapped soldiers, it is not responding to the kidnapping alone. It is responding to the rejectionist ideology which underlies the kidnapping.

Never let the facts get in the way of an excellent stream of Propaganda.

I repeat: the US and Israel do not know how to play the Propaganda Game. And I submit that propaganda is damned near as important as dead Islamists.

I am sure that the UN will be seen in the same light as the League of Nations for its failures...Not enforcing peace treaties, not acting to stop aggressive regimes, and letting totalitarians arm proxies to cause problems... yes, we actually HAVE seen it all before.

In depth and detail.

And then, when Britain and the Allies decided not to confront Germany when it was still extremely weak to the point of pathetic, they, instead, gave away the Sudetenland. Peace in Our Time!

While the gold reserves of Czechoslovakia were plundered to the tune of $200M back in 1938... which is about $3B today... in a single shot.. a Nation re-armed in full-bore. Notice the dip in the cost per ounce of gold in the following year. Americans were isolationist, but with China already having been invaded for some years, and the USSR at war with Japan along Manchuria, the Anschluss and then Sudetenland marked trend-lines of totalitarian ways gaining inroads against the timid governments of Britain and France and the isolationist governing direction of the US. Even with FDR, there was not much that he could do to get the Nation prepared to war when it finally came to Our Shores.

So here we are, back on the happy road to Appeasement, allowing totalitarian groups to impose their will and give out propaganda as *facts*, with little questioning of them. Then throw in Mr. Egeland and Mr. Annan wanting reparations for Lebanon *only* and the possibility of 'war crimes trials' against Israel and you get the idea that for being pretty bright, here in the west, we are also damn clueless.

Let those who want to stay *away* from the world or turn it into some lovely EU talk-fest get a few years of relative calm and they begin to ask: 'Why can't we get this for everyone, everywhere?' Then they skew off into all sorts of directions of armed-pacifism, human shielding of criminals, wanting to let people off for abhorrent actions because of their 'upringing' or 'deprivation' or some such. And they keep ON going like that until that nasty critter in the pit gets ahold of their leg and starts to pull them in...

Give honor to barbarians and you get... death and tyranny. Appease monsters and they grow bolder with each time one does so, until they are strong enough to grab and pull, into that abyss known as war. And this time we allow barbarians, those who respect no law of Nations, respect no Nation nor any law, right *in* to the Nation. To decay its strength and resolve and try to tell those that believe in honor and justice that those are silly concepts.... as are the rights of individuals...

By not *asserting* one's rights and using them productively to gain trust and honor amongst those who likewise do, those rights get scoffed at... scorned... belittled... eroded... until they are shadows. As it is with individuals so it is with Nations. When I hear someone go on about having their *guns* and that 'they can pry it out of my cold, dead hands', I do tend to ask: is that a statement of desire? For you are surely working at just that end when all you do is keep and hold rights for your own little lonesome. And in forgetting the society that *upholds* that right, by not *using* that right, by not *demonstrating* that it is more than just hunting or self-protection... that it has meaning *beyond* the personal... in using rights in a selfish way, society is diminished, also.

With Nations if we do not uphold our friendship and alliances, and STAND by those that are friends and allies to be WORTHY of their friendship... then we let go of those things that makes having Nations and Liberty possible. When war is offered as a direct threat and acted upon, then is *not* the time for peace treaties or cease fires or a *halt* in fighting. When asked why I suggested little Denmark increase its defense spending by 2 or 3 fold over the next couple of years, someone came back: 'Why not go the Hamiltonian route and slowly build-up over a decade or so?' My reply: Because you may not HAVE a Nation then.

The threat is always and ever easier when it is *tomorrow*... and you hope you can keep putting *tomorrow* off until your life ends and your children then are given your fine abdication of duty as proof of your caring about them. Unfortunately the dawn of *tomorrow* is here... and the first harsh, cold rays of the sun give us a landscape that is changing... quaking beneath our feet... and yet the trembling we feel is not that of these great shifts. It is the trembling within our hearts... our minds... our souls...

Why do I say time and time again that *now* is the time to start?

Because tomorrow may be too damn late.

It is tomorrow now... are we prepared?

Ralph Peters is right: "The wars of the future will be won by those with the greater strength of will. And boundless determination is one weapon that Islamist extremists unquestionably possess. Do we?"

Who has the greatest strength of will? I question the will to survive of most any western nation now. We appear to be our own collective "worst enemy."

The UN is moribund. Someone with some foresight needs to create, as you have advocated, another new and strong coalition of western nations only.

Islamists, socialists and communists need not apply.
