Bloviating Zeppelin: Would You?

Bloviating Zeppelin

(in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Would You?

If the primary season reveals no decisive front-runner, and if conservative delegates head toward the GOP convention with the nagging feeling that our best candidate wasn't in the race, we urge them to consider acting on what so many Republicans and Reagan Democrats are thinking. Drafting Newt Gingrich is a real solution to the current leadership problem. Even as a vice presidential choice, Gingrich would solidify the ranks and reinforce the GOP's position as the party of bold ideas, but as a presidential choice he could bring about a truly needed Second Reagan Revolution.

Would you consider Newt Gingrich as a presidential nominee?

the GOP's best idea guy, he needs to be heading the party, that is, if republicans really ARE conservative. if not, he needs to be about the business of organizing a conservative party for the next elections, it's a bit late to make a change this go-around. I can't understand how Hillary's ideological equal,(at least as far as domestic policy and border policy goes) Juan McCain, ended up on top of what was a really good bunch of candidates.

I have to agree with Mark - the Republicants have lost their rudder. Newt would be a good organizer of a new, truly conservative, party, but it's too late in the dance to try to change the band.

To me the basic princibles behind the Republican Party, the Conservative Party is Family Values. Being decent, having good character and putting family first.

Newt Gingrich has been married three times. He married Jackie Battley, his former high school geometry teacher, when he was 19 years old (she was seven years his senior at 26 years old). After an alleged affair with Ann Manning in 1977, Gingrich sought a divorce from Battley. In 1981, Gingrich wed Marianne Ginther, to whom he remained married until 1999, the same year Gingrich had an affair with a then 33-year-old Congressional staffer, Callista Bisek. He and Bisek were married in 2000 and currently reside in Virginia. Gingrich has two daughters, Kathy and Jackie from his marriage to Jackie Battley, two sons-in-law and two grandchildren.

How anyone can mention Newt Gingrich and family values, Conservative Values in the same sentence is beyound me.

At this point, it's a fight for the soul of the Republican party. I would take any clearly conservative choice, lest I have to wast a vote on a third party candidate, probably the Libertarian.

Is Gingrich another McCain? No.

Would I vote for him in a heartbeat? Yes.

I've now reached the write in my dog's name stage of the game. I can;t stand any of them.

I guess if forced I'd pick slimey Romney, but is that saying much?

Nope, and for the exact reasons so eloquently stated by Ranando, not to mention the fact that I have never liked Newt to begin with...

Ranando,

I guess King David, Solomon, Ben Franklin, Andrew Jackson, and many others should be thrown into the trashbin because of personal failures too. despite the fact the revolution would probably not have been successful without Franklin, and who knows what would have happened if Jackson had not been in New Orleans to repel the British there.
there are certainly benefits to living a moral life, but some of us learn these lessons later in life than others do. one does not have to be perfect to be a great idea's guy or organizer.

Mark,

I take it your a big Bill Clinton supporter.

With all due respect, LATER ON IN LIFE, Bullshit.

Newt is a Hypocrit and a phony. Preaching one thing and doing just the opposit, a Ted Haggard if you will.

No time for that in our Government, at least not mine.

I don't give a flying-f88k about King David, Solomon, Ben Franklin, Andrew Jackson, they're not running for President.

I guess Jane Fonda should be running since she made her remarks at a young age.

Are we or are we not talking about The Conservative Party.

It would be great if it could work. If we tried and failed the results would be catastrophic.

Ranando,

don't feel like the lone ranger, you aint the only one who does not give a shit about Franklin, Jackson, and history in general and prefers Nancy Pelosi's management of congress over Newt Gingrich's. establishing goals like the contract with America simply does not hold a candle to all the great things Nancy Pelosi has accomplished in office.

Mark,

Your comments are exactlly why a Democrat will be the next President.

We as conservatives can't even agree that Character matters, what a person stands for matters, what values stand for.

When do we start? I say we start now, right now.

It's OK for Newt but bad for Bill Clinton, what the HELL is that?

Either CHEATING on your wife is wrong or it isn't.

Let me also correct you...

I never said history or these folks didn't matter. I said as far as this Presidental Election those folks don't matter to me.

On this one Mark, you and I must agree to disagree, Character and Values matter to me, a lot.

Ranando,

Could it be we are both mis-understanding what the majority wants and desires? albeit from differing angles. because McCain is basically George W's twin.

they are twins on the WOT policy, border policy,
NAFTA, and eventual north American union policy,
general fiscal policy, and pretty much everything else.

to me it looks like the majority wants another George W., and in McCain, that's exactly what they're gonna get.

so, tell me what part of the contract with America you found so odious? or do you just think Nancy's house cafeteria menu changes were simply more important a task than the house discussing eliminating earmarks or downsizing our bloated government?

Maybe Hillary getting elected is what this country needs to wake the hell up! two years of Pelosi heading the house, Reid heading the senate and queen Hillary signing everything they send her way will get the public's attention, who knows? they might actually decide old '60's hippy notions don't hold up.

All: so WHERE IS IT that we will find our perfect candidate? Ronald Reagan is dead. His type of politician is dead. It's a different generation. You FIND me GOP candidates that conform to PERFECTION. Perfection does not exist. We have to beat the OTHER side at this juncture, not our OWN side. It's not enough to say we want and support Conservatives.

We have two steps:

1. Define Conservatism
2. Identify Conservatives

Bottom line: with gritted teeth, flecking enamel, facing reality, I will vote for McCain over Obama -- because that's who it will be. Obama is a "nice looking black man" who doesn't espouse GutterSpeak. And that's about the extent of him. Do you not think that he could POSSIBLY be MANIPULATED by ANY and ALL factions on the True Far Left in order to "fit in"?

I can see Obama drinking the Daily Kos Kool Aid. I can't see McCain doing precisely the same thing. McCain doesn't want that badly to Please All, to be Everything to Everyone. Obama desperately wants to CONFORM to the Left. Check his voting record!

And if THAT is the choice, then I know where I will go. Even Cthulhu knows how to vote on this one.

Mark,

I was addressing the question of this post, would I ever vote for Newt?

My answer is, NO.

No, there are too many reasons that he wouldn't work and thats why he chose not to run. I was willing to give him a chance a year ago and then he really ticked me off by several things he said and did.

I wouldn't want to draft Gingrich. If he were running already and it were between him and McClinton, then I would vote Gingrich. I am content with Romney being the other choice over McCain.. I mean McClinton.. But, if Gingrich jumped in I don't think I could support him simply because he has a lot of "Establishment" tendencies.
